Munib R Masri, Edgo’s Chairman, has been honored by the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin, his alma mater, in recognition of his contribution to the field of geosciences.
At a ceremony, attended by alumni and staff of the school, Munib R Masri was inducted into the school’s Hall of Distinction, following a vote by a committee of highly respected scholars.
Only 34 people in the 126 year history of the school have been bestowed this honor. Mr Masri joins a prestigious group which comprises individuals who have made a notable and lasting impact in the field of geosciences. Mr. Masri was born in Nablus, Palestine where he resides today. He is the only Arab to have ever received this award.
Munib R Masri’s links to the University of Texas go back to the 1950s. As an undergraduate at the university he met his wife, Angela, and graduated in 1955 with a BSc in petroleum geology.
The Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin is among the most established and well-regarded geoscience programs in the world. The school includes the University’s Department of Geological Sciences, one of the country’s oldest geoscience departments, and two world-renowned research units, the Institute for Geophysics and the Bureau of Economic Geology.
The school is home to the world’s largest academic geoscience communities with nearly 4,800 alumni, 90 research scientists and 58 faculty members, and one of the largest combined graduate and undergraduate enrollments of any major geoscience program.
